In 1980, Hancock Concrete, in cooperation with a European company,
developed an American version of the Long Span Precast Concrete Arch. Since that time,
Hancock has expanded production of Long Span Arches to include the generic Minnesota
Department of Transportation designs.
Precast concrete Long Span Arches are available in a range of sizes to
meet almost any requirement and can be used for a variety of purposes ranging from
stream crossings to railroad tunnels. They provide a versatile and economical alternative
to conventional bridges and are faster and easier to install. After the footings have been
installed, the precast units can typically be set in as little as 1 to 2 days. The arch is
aesthetically pleasing and has become very popular for special settings. The use of form
liners or stone facing with the headwalls and wingwalls can enhance the appearance of the
structure.
